fake #1

In your inebriated slur
You ask for another round
I have been listening to you
And your sorrows
One memory after another
Words are but constructs
You break them apart
Beat them up senseless
Leaving for me to decipher
The lump in your throat
I
On the other hand
Cannot afford sadness

Remember that time when you offered to buy me a round
And I refused
It's because I have no sense of entitlement
I have lived my live
Untitled
Bracketed between oblivion
Punctuated with anxiety
Filled with dots and dashes
Like I said
I cannot afford sadness
Only repetition

Do you forget
Every night
Like it never happened
There is that vague sense of having cried
Hugged awkwardly
And then maybe made out?
I
Cannot afford to remember
Or forget.
